Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask about app store charts and about this site. For the longer explanations, see the guides.

What is AppWinners?

A free website that records the iOS App Store and Google Play top charts every day for about 200 countries and every category, and shows where any app ranks everywhere, how that changed, and its history. No account, no ads.

How are App Store rankings calculated?

Apple does not publish the formula. The charts reflect download (or revenue, for Top Grossing) volume over a short recent window, roughly the last one to four days with the most recent day weighted most, computed separately for each storefront and category.

How are Google Play rankings calculated?

Google has said its charts consider installs over a recent window plus quality and engagement signals such as uninstalls, crashes and usage. The exact weights are not published.

What does Top Grossing mean?

Apps ranked by revenue, including in-app purchases and subscriptions, rather than by downloads. Free-to-play games usually dominate it.

What is the difference between Top Free and Top Paid?

Top Free ranks apps with no up-front price by downloads; Top Paid ranks apps that cost money up front by purchases.

How often do the charts update?

The stores refresh them several times a day. AppWinners takes one snapshot per day at about 06:00 UTC and keeps every snapshot forever.

Why does my app's rank differ between AppWinners and the store right now?

Our page shows this morning's snapshot; the store shows its latest refresh. Positions can move a few places during the day. Google Play also returns slightly different orderings between requests.

Why is my app not on AppWinners?

Only apps inside a store's published chart (top 200 overall, top 100 for App Store categories) in at least one country appear. Check your category chart in your home market first.

How many countries do you cover?

175 App Store storefronts and about 195 Google Play countries, every one with its own charts. Smaller Play markets that share a generic chart are left out so positions are real.

Do you cover iPad charts?

No. We track the iPhone charts, which are the ones most people and tools refer to.

What does 'new' mean next to an app?

The app was not on that chart in the previous day's snapshot. 'Back' means it had been on the chart before and returned.

What are peak and days?

Peak is the best position we have observed for the app on that chart since we started tracking it; days is how many daily snapshots it has appeared in.

How far back does the history go?

Our own daily history starts on 19 October 2026. For the United States we also show a clearly labelled reconstructed archive built from public sources back to 2010, sparse and top-100 deep.

Where does the data come from?

From the stores' own public chart feeds and pages, captured once a day with an identified crawler at polite rates. Nothing is estimated or modelled.

Are these download numbers?

No. AppWinners shows positions only. We do not estimate downloads or revenue.

Can I track my app over time?

Yes. Open your app page for daily history per country, star it to pin it to the home page, and share the pinned list with your team by link.

Can I see all apps of a developer?

Yes. Search the developer's name or click it on any app page to open the developer page with every charted app and its best rank.

Is there an API or data download?

Not yet. If you need bulk access for research, contact hello@appwinners.eu.

Is AppWinners affiliated with Apple or Google?

No. App Store is a trademark of Apple Inc. and Google Play is a trademark of Google LLC. AppWinners is independent.

I'm a developer and want my app removed or corrected.

Email hello@appwinners.eu. We only republish public chart positions and link every app to its store page.
