ASO Tools Compared: AppTweak, Sensor Tower, Appfigures

The right ASO tool depends less on features than on whether you need your own keyword ranks (cheap) or estimates of everyone else's downloads and revenue (expensive). Entry prices in October 2026 run from $9 a month for a Mac app to "contact sales" for the enterprise suites, and the free layer from Apple, Google and chart sites covers more than most indies expect.
What an ASO tool actually does
Every vendor on this list sells some mix of four things. Keyword rank tracking tells you where your app sits for a query in a given country, day by day. Keyword research estimates how often a term is searched and how hard it is to rank for. Competitor intelligence shows which keywords rival apps rank for, how their metadata changed and, at the top end, how many downloads and dollars they are estimated to earn. Review and rating tooling collects reviews across stores, tags them and lets you reply.
The first two are commodity features now. The third is where the prices diverge, because download and revenue estimates require panel data and modelling that only the biggest vendors have. Knowing which bucket you are paying for is the whole game.
Pricing at a glance (public pages, October 2026)
All figures are taken from each vendor's public pricing page in October 2026 and will drift. AppTweak quotes in euros and labels its monthly figures as annual-billing equivalents 1. Appfigures shows both monthly and annual rates; the monthly figures below are the pay-monthly price with the annual rate in brackets 2.
| Tool | Free tier | Entry paid plan | Mid plan | Top self-serve plan | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AppTweak 1 | Trial only | Essential €79/mo, 500 keywords, 5 apps | Grow €249/mo, 1,500 keywords | Expand €499/mo, 3,000 keywords | Contact sales |
| Appfigures 2 | Starter, 5 apps, no keywords | Monitor $44.99/mo ($35.99 annual), 100 keywords | Optimize $149.99/mo ($119.99), 500 keywords | Amplify $1,399.99/mo ($999.99), 2,500 keywords | Explorer plans from $499.99/mo annual |
| MobileAction 3 | Apple Ads manager free up to $10k/mo spend | Lite $15/mo ($12.50 annual), 100 keywords | Basic $69/mo ($59), 500 keywords | Pro $239/mo ($199), 1,500 keywords | Contact sales |
| AppFollow 4 | Trial only | Not published | Not published | Not published | Contact sales |
| Astro 5 | None (14-day refund) | $9/mo or $108/yr, unlimited keywords | Single plan | Single plan | None |
| Sensor Tower (incl. data.ai) 6 | Limited free sign-up (scope unverified) | Not published | Not published | Not published | Custom quote |
Two things stand out. The cheapest way to track a meaningful number of keywords is Astro or MobileAction Lite, both well under $20 a month. And the two vendors that sell market-wide download and revenue estimates, Sensor Tower and the upper Appfigures tiers, are the ones that either hide pricing or charge four figures.
What each tool is good at
AppTweak
AppTweak's self-serve plans are organised around keyword volume and history: 500, 1,500 or 3,000 tracked keywords with 6, 12 or 24 months of history. The Grow tier adds estimated organic installs per keyword, a metadata simulator and Slack alerts; Expand adds creative and custom-product-page exploration and localisation tools 1. The company's own April 2026 roundup of keyword research tools positions it for mid-to-large apps and agencies, which matches the price point 11. It is the tool to pick when ASO is someone's full-time job.
Appfigures
Appfigures started as a sales-reporting dashboard and still leads with that: the free Starter plan connects up to five of your own apps and consolidates downloads, revenue and reviews, with keyword tracking arriving at the Monitor tier. Higher tiers unlock hourly rank updates and competitor keyword views, and a separate Explorer product line (Scout, Pathfinder, Scale) covers market-wide app search, SDK intelligence and contact data for business development 2. It is the natural choice for a solo developer who wants one login for revenue and ranks.
MobileAction
MobileAction's ASO plans are the least expensive of the full-featured suites, and its free Apple Ads campaign manager (covering up to $10,000 of monthly spend) is a genuine giveaway for anyone running search ads 3. Its paid intelligence products for ad creatives, Apple Ads keyword impressions and custom product pages are quoted on request. Good fit: teams whose growth lever is Apple Ads plus organic search.
AppFollow
AppFollow's public site describes review management, ASO tools, workflow automation and an MCP/AI toolkit, but publishes no prices; the pricing page offers a trial and a sales call 4. Its strongest reputation is on the review side: aggregating reviews from stores, tagging them with AI and routing replies into support tools. If your pain is 5,000 reviews a month across six storefronts, start here; if it is keyword ranks, start elsewhere.
Astro
Astro is a native Mac app (macOS 14 or later) sold as a single licence at $9 a month or $108 a year with unlimited keyword tracking, Apple Ads popularity data, competitor keyword extraction, DeepL translations and review tracking across more than 60 storefronts 5. Even a competitor's 2026 roundup singles it out as the low-cost entry point 11. The trade-off is that it runs on your Mac rather than in a shared web dashboard, so it suits one-person teams.
Sensor Tower and data.ai
Sensor Tower acquired data.ai (formerly App Annie) in March 2024 and now markets one enterprise platform spanning app, advertising, audience, web and games data 7. The App Performance Insights product page says pricing varies by access level, markets and features, that full access is via paid plans, and that you can sign up for free, without specifying what the free account includes 6. Its About page claims more than 2,500 enterprise customers 8. This is the tool for estimating a competitor's downloads and revenue, for investor research and for category-level market sizing. It is rarely the right first purchase for an indie.
The free layer
Before paying anyone, exhaust what the platforms give you. Apple's Product Page Optimization lets you test up to three alternate icon, screenshot or preview treatments for up to 90 days, with conversion rate and confidence reported in App Store Connect 9. Google's store listing experiments do the same for icons, feature graphics, screenshots and descriptions, with results flagged as a win, a draw or "more data needed" 10. Apple Ads shows a keyword popularity index when you build campaigns, which is the same signal several paid tools resell (exact scale unverified).
For ranks, the top charts themselves are public. AppWinners publishes daily iOS and Android chart positions, rank history and movers for free, which covers the "where are we and who is climbing" question without a subscription. What it does not do is keyword-level tracking or download estimates, which is exactly where the paid tools earn their fee.
How to choose
| If you are... | Start with | Upgrade when |
|---|---|---|
| Solo dev, one app, no budget | AppWinners charts + Apple/Google experiments + Apple Ads popularity | You need daily keyword ranks |
| Solo dev on a Mac, a few apps | Astro or MobileAction Lite | You need a shared web dashboard or competitor install estimates |
| Small team with revenue reporting pain | Appfigures Monitor or Optimize | You want hourly updates or market-wide search |
| Growth team with an ASO owner | AppTweak Essential or Grow | You need creative, CPP and localisation research |
| Support team drowning in reviews | AppFollow (ask for a quote) | Never, if ranks are not the problem |
| Studio or publisher sizing a market | Sensor Tower | You already have the budget line |
How this shows up in the charts
Keyword tools tell you about search; the top charts tell you about volume. The two often disagree, and that disagreement is useful. An app can rank first for a dozen keywords and still sit outside the top 200 because its category is dominated by paid user acquisition, while a game with poor keyword coverage can hold a top-10 free position on launch-week installs alone. Open the iOS charts or Android charts for your category, note which apps hold their position for weeks, and then look those apps up in whichever tool you trial. If their keyword footprint is thin, their growth engine is somewhere else, and no amount of ASO spend will copy it. The movers list is the cheapest competitor-intelligence feed you will find: a sudden climb almost always means a feature, a campaign or a viral moment worth investigating before you pay for estimates.
